Fall is Nearing

I try my hand at poetry from time to time. I wanted to add this to my blog because fall is my absolute favorite time of the year. It has a poignant beauty...all nostalgic and such! Enjoy!

Fall is Nearing

Fall is nearing,
thus my heart is in deepest thought
Gone is whimsical summer
and all the joys it has wrought.

The lush green will be on it's deathbed
And the fireflys will escape away
The languor of the hammock's creak
Will succumb to the approaching days.

The darkness of night swells with length
And the shadows become more intense
The brisk air whispers a foreboding tale
Of a season that holds no pretense.

Sprightly summer days must go,
Their cruel escort is the Autumn wind
And upon my deep introspection
Lies a reality buried within

Fall is nearing,
and my heart sinks with the thought
That I shoud fail to glean
from the lessons I'll be taught.

Hey Rita...so glad to see that you are still writing poetry! I love this one as Fall is my favorite season too! I have read all of your posts and it took me back to high school and "the notebook" that we used to write each other notes in...well, just wanted to say "hi". would love to catch up sometime even if it is via email. take care, Sherrie

Hey gal!! The notebook...yes, I remember well. I also remember guarding it with my life. Do you still have it?? I would love to read it. Fall is still my fav too. If you have a profile, make it public so I can check out your blog! Take care, Rita

Hey, the notebook may be in my attic or mom and dad's, will have to take some time to check...will let you know if I find it. I am still debating about the whole blog thing...I love to read them but I am not there yet on sharing my thoughts with the whole blogosphere. If you want to catch up you can email me at sherrie.howard1@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon! I am off to get a manicure and then packing for a work trip to Ft. Lauderdale. Have a great Saturday! Take care, Sherrie
